Technical information for Spartan® Clamps

1. Do not over-tighten. We have designed our Spartan® clamps to be tightened by finger pressure only.

Regular over-tightening will result in the clamp taking on a permanent set at the elevated operating temperatures and it will progressively open up until it no longer functions. It needs only finger tightening for more than adequate holding pressure: no more than one to 1.5 turns of the screw beyond initial contact. This will also make the clamp much easier to remove.

2. Flexibility

The Spartan® clamp is in effect a sophisticated spring and is expected to open and close up to about 2mm from its normal size to accommodate fluctuations due to temperature and vibration.

3. Beware of chemical attack

The Spartan® clamp is attacked by certain chemicals in the brightening and chromate processes. You will recognise this by a change in its appearance. Report any such change immediately.

4. Angled surfaces

Do not clamp with the screw on an angled surface. This will cause twisting of the clamp body and could result in broken screws.

5. Heavy sections

When clamping heavy sections, locate the clamp at the uppermost part to avoid twisting.
